With a total distance of 45 km, this circular route with magnificent scenery corresponds to more than the classic marathon distance. In addition to many kilometers, hikers can also expect some elevation gain and a bit of culture along the way.
The starting point of the tour is the municipal administration at Lamspringer Kloster. The first 21km are the Klosterwandwerg Lamspringe-Brunshausen. Right after the start, it goes straight to the point, over the Clausberg to the Heberkamm. After about 1.5 km and 100 meters of elevation gain, we reach the first single trail section of this tour, which is 5 km long. It is part of the Klosterwanderweg, which leads to Kloster Brunshausen. From km 15, we continue along forest and gravel roads along the Heberkamm, before a section of about 3.5 km towards Wolperode leads us on asphalt. From Wolperode, there is a short uphill stretch to the so-called Gandersheimer Schanze before the path descends steeply towards Kloster Brunshausen.
From Kloster Brunshausen, we head to the Clusberg and follow the European long-distance trail E11 about 10 km westward on the Helleberg. This involves again ascending about 200 meters in altitude on changing paths towards Schildhorst, on the Jakobsweg-Via Skandinavia. The next 3.5 km section takes us past Winzenburg at the Fischerhütte.
From here, the next 4 km lead through hilly terrain to the castle ruins of Winzenburg, over the Rennstieg (old courier route Hildesheim-Winzenburg) to the Hohen Schanze, where excavations of an old refuge castle from the 10th century can be seen.
On the last 6 km in the southern Sackwald, we return to Kloster Lamspringe on changing paths.
The tour is mainly on natural trails (single trail character) alternating with gravel sections. Only in the Lamspringe area and a approximately 3.5 km section from Heberkamm towards Wolperode, asphalt must be covered.
The tour can also be very well done as a day tour by mountain bike. (good condition required)
