Description by the author

Cross-border half-day cycle tour of approx. 47 km through the landscape of the Saar-Palatinate and Lorraine border region, which is always characterized by water. There are a total of 14 mills along the way, with the highlight undoubtedly being the mill and sawmill museum at the Eschweiler mill. The cycle route leads through river valleys and forests as well as over ridges with wonderful views.

This half-day cycle tour is characterized by a total of 14 mills, which are located on German and French territory and invite you to linger. For cyclists setting off from Zweibrücken railroad station, the route first leads over a former railroad embankment to the monastery town of Hornbach with the burial site of St. Pirminius. If you set off from the Pirminiushalle parking lot in Hornbach, follow Bahnhofstraße in the direction of Hornbach Monastery. The cycle path is very well signposted from Hornbach. In the adjacent Schwalb valley, the route then crosses over to France and runs along a small stream. A possible rest stop with a picnic can be made at the Schweyener Mühle. More mills follow, giving the cross-border cycle route its name. The return leg of the circular route runs through the "Parr" (parish) in the Bliesgau biosphere reserve, a heavenly tranquil farming landscape around the Bickenalb valley. The Biosphere Bliesgau is characterized in the southern part by this typical gently undulating landscape and is simply a pleasure for the eye!

To summarize, there are over 10 mills along the route that bear witness to the miller's trade that was once important in this region. One of the highlights is undoubtedly the Mill and Saw Museum at the Eschweiler Mill in Volmunster. Here you can still see how grain and wood are processed using water power.</p
