Weyhe's maritime side

We pass a double barrier and head towards the Weser. Immediately on the left we find the travel garden. We then follow the paved path, with the Old Weser and the bathing area to our right, and the river to our left. We circle around half of the Old Weser. At the end of the path, we turn left, walk past more gravel pits, anglers, and boathouses. Finally, we reach the Wieltsee, recognizable as a marina. If we turn left, we can stop at "Smokey Island" (closed from November to April) and enjoy the view of the water.

Returning to the main path, we continue along it and take the first right turn. We pass a dike gap and now walk outside the dike on the Weser Cycle Path. After a kilometer, we turn right and hike up the dike back to the starting point. The path is paved or solid. This walk is very popular among dog owners. We see the Dreyer Harbor with the dock for the "Flotte Weser," walk along old branches and gravel pits, maybe observe sheep, and definitely crows and ducks, cross the dike foreland, which extends to Ahausen and can be explored on further walks. What may not be immediately apparent is that before sand and gravel were excavated, there was an inland dune here.

There was a harbor on the Weser where wood and bricks were loaded and customs were collected, as evidenced by the street name "Am Zollhof," because Bremen did not join the German Customs Union and Dreye belonged to the Kingdom of Hanover. The name Dreye comes from the fact that the Weser used to turn more sharply (dreit) here than it does today. In the summer, one should have swimwear with them.
