Discovery Loop Monument Route Hochdahl

The current settlement structure of Hochdahl was formed in two phases. The first was due to the construction of the railway in 1841. The favorable transport situation and the presence of limestone in the Neander Valley led to the founding of a large ironworks. The naturally grown social order - characterized by a rural character shaped by agriculture and forestry - is influenced by the iron industry. The second stage developed from 1960 onwards through a new planning for the districts of Hochdahl, Trills, Millrath, and Unterfeldhaus. The diversity of the planning offices involved, a high level of participation from citizens, associations, and authorities ultimately had a very positive impact on the development. In this city expansion completed in 1995, cultural objects play a significant role as connecting values ​​of remembrance. They serve as a bridge between the historically grown past and the still historically unburdened present of the new residential areas.
