The circular hiking trail A5 Falkenburg leads you along the Stemberg up to Falkenburg. The construction of Falkenburg, known as the origin of Lippe, was initiated between 1190 and 1194 by Bernhard II and his son Hermann II. Parts of the castle were used for the expansion of Gauseköte under Princess Pauline zur Lippe. Today, the ruins are owned by Stephan Prinz zur Lippe, a direct descendant of the builders. In late 2004, the association "Die Falkenburg e. V." was founded on private initiative for the preservation and restoration of the castle. Archaeological excavations have been taking place since 2005. Today, the castle ruins are open to visitors.
