Lippstadt & Bad Waldliesborn - From Lippstadt to Mastholte

The route starts at Kuhmarkt in Lippstadt, in close proximity to the Lippstadt Town Hall square. From there, it goes towards Lipperode along the castle ruins. The Lipperode castle ruins are a former Lippian water castle at the Lippe crossing. It was first mentioned in a document in 1248 and was surrounded by a strong rampart between 1605 and 1609. Today, only wall remnants, moat, and rampart pieces remain as reminders.
Continuing past Alberssee, which invites swimming in the summer, to the "Freien Stuhl". On a sand hill to the left of the Boker-Heide-Canal, at the border of Lipperode, Westenholz, and Mastholte, right by the restaurant "Zum Freien Stuhl", stands a triangular stone. It bears three different coats of arms: the Lippian rose, the eagle with the letters WAGzR, meaning Wenzel August Count of Rietberg, and a lozenge coat of arms with the Bavarian lion and the letters CABiP, meaning Clemens August, Bishop of Paderborn. The stone marks the location of the former "Freystuhl". In ancient times, the Feme court was held under a tree at this judicial site. However, in the face of the idyllic landscape, one may only vaguely be reminded of such serious times.
Another break can be taken at Mastholter See. Every cyclist enjoys their breather at this beautiful spot in direct contact with nature. Refreshed, the route then leads off busy roads back to Lippstadt via Bad Waldliesborn. By the way, you also pass by St. Jakobus on the way. This pilgrimage church is located directly on the Way of St. James, which famously ends in Santiago de Compostela at some point.
