Old boundary stones remind us of a time when Germany was still made up of many small states. Where the Münsterland, the Osnabrück region, and the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region meet today, the political and denominational border between three independent states used to run. In the 18th century, valuable salt was transported between the Teutoburg Forest and the Ems, and often thieving gangs smuggled the "white gold" secretly across the borders. In addition to a beautiful landscape that mainly runs flat through fields, meadows, and forests, the region has a lot to offer culinarily. Along the route, you will find many farm shops selling locally grown products.
