Description by the author

At the hiking parking lot in Neurittsteig, we head for the wooden log cabin of the WSV Rittsteig. On this tour, we always follow the Nk24 hiking trail markings. Here we turn left onto the groomed forest road (note: please do not walk on the cross-country trail, the path is wide enough for everyone!) and hike approx. 2 km to the Taferl past the snow-covered wooden sculptures by chainsaw artist Rudi Mühlbauer. At the Taferl we find a wayside shrine with the Savior resting on a tree near a rest area with a shelter. We can also enjoy a sweeping view of the neighboring Czech Republic. We then walk a little further along the forest road to a timber transfer point, where we turn half-right onto a forest path. We soon reach the Taubenbrunn (the spring feeds the Angelbach) at boundary stone no. 18. The main European watershed Elbe - Danube also runs up here. This means that the precipitation that flows off the surface here ends up in the Elbe on the one hand and in the Danube on the other, depending on which side of the main watershed it falls. After the detour to Taubenbrunn, we continue along the path until we reach a marked path on the right after approx. 200 m, where we turn right. Soon afterwards we come to a small stone forest chapel. From then on, we experience a very varied forest path with rock formations, clearings with young forest and a viewpoint, the Zwieseleck, with a wonderful view of the Osser and Arber. We continue our hike and then reach the Red Cross via a rocky ridge. We then descend again to Neurittsteig. We walk past a farm and arrive at the Neurittsteig hiking parking lot. This tour is located in an area where the rare capercaillie can be found. Any small disturbance causes these large birds to flee, consuming enormous amounts of energy in the process. If disturbed regularly, this can lead to starvation. Therefore our request: Make sure you stay on the marked hiking trails in winter.
