We did this hike on April 23, 2024
We thought we would park at the small parking lot at the Villa Rustica, but due to construction work, that was not possible. We found a parking lot on the L1 a bit outside of Bollendorf. It is easier to reach, free, and there is plenty of parking available.
For this hike, we used several marked routes. Bring a GPS track and/or a map for navigation.
It is a short, beautiful hike with several highlights. If you walk the loop clockwise, you will pass the Villa Rustica in succession. If you want, you can make a detour to the Devil's Hole. We had already seen it on another walk. Then you will pass a memorial stone for the goddess Diana, before crossing the domain of Castle Weilerbach not much further. The hike leads down into the valley of the Sauer, where you can see the covered Alfred-Toepfer Bridge. After that, it goes back to the parking lot at the Sauerbank.
