Kiedrich - Eberbach Monastery - Kiedrich (Rheingau)

The UNESCO has listed parts of the Rheingau as a World Heritage Site, as the area is particularly special. The Rheingau is located on the northern side of the Rhine, the part where it flows from east to west between Wiesbaden and Lorch on the Rhine. The slopes of the hills are therefore directly south-facing, which is excellent for viticulture. This is the region from which the best Riesling wine originates.
It is no new invention that the best wine comes from the Rheingau. Charlemagne sourced all his wine from here, and it is thanks to him that there are still wine taverns today, winemakers who run their own wine rooms. In addition, there are cozy wine cellars and restaurants in the region. The vineyards in the Rheingau often still carry the names of the monasteries and castles to which they once belonged: Johannisburg, Schloss Vollrads, or Kloster Eberbach.

The hike leads from Kiedrich, St. Valentin's Church along vineyards up the slope to Kloster Eberbach and back to the Gothic wine village of Kiedrich.
