In the vicinity of Canaveral, the rock contains Li or lithium. That metal is crucial for the batteries of, among other things, electric cars. Most lithium comes from Chile and China. So there is quite a lot of pressure in this area to mine the 'white gold' to be independent in Europe for this important metal.
