The Consulate of the Sea was a medieval institution of the Crown of Aragon, linked to the rights of merchants and the major commercial municipalities. Its functions were to regulate trade and maritime affairs in commercial matters. They were usually located as an annex of the Stock Exchange, as is the case in Barcelona and Valencia; in the case of Palma, it was located in a nearby building.
