The Battle of Vilademat was a battle of the Catalan Civil War that took place on November 21, 1467 near the town of Viladamat, in the Alt Empordà. It was a resounding victory for the army of John of Anjou, lieutenant of Catalonia appointed by his father René of Anjou, who months earlier had accepted to be the new sovereign of the Principality of Catalonia after the death of Peter of Portugal. During the battle the main military leaders of the royalist side that supported John II of Aragon were taken prisoner, although the very young crown prince Don Fernando managed to escape and return with his father Juan II by sea to Tarragona.
