Verdera Castle

Source: wikipedia

The castle of Verdera (or Sant Salvador de Verdera or more often simply of Sant Salvador) is a medieval fortification located at the top of Sant Salvador Saverdera, 670 m above sea level, the highest peak in the Sierra de Rodes.

The castle of Verdera is a rocky castle that is mentioned for the first time in documents preserved in 904, as a possession of the counts of Empúries. Although this allows us to assume that this castle already existed at least during the ninth century, archaeology shows that on the ridge of La Verdera there had been a fortification since remote times.
