The Battle of Rhode was one of the battles of the uprising of 197 B.C. by the Iberian peoples against Roman domination in the 2nd century B.C.
The victory of the Roman Republic over Carthage in the Second Punic War left Hispania in Roman hands. The transformation of the territory into a province caused significant administrative and tax changes,[2] and the imposition of the stipendium was not accepted by the local tribes that still enjoyed a certain political structure and capacity for reaction,[3] so in 197 B.C., just after the end of the Second Macedonian War, a large revolt broke out throughout the conquered area in Hispania due to Republican plundering.
