The Alhambra contains a lot of symmetrical patterns. But did the Moorish artist created all the possible symmetries? It turns out they almost did. That problem can be addressed by the mathematical language of Galois. Galois proved that there are 17 possible symmetries. It is very well explained in the talk "Symmetry, reality's riddle" by Marcus du Sautoy.
