It was the location of one of the town's markets: the Ocata market. The other was the Masnou market and was located in the Plaça del Mercat Vell. The first steps to open it began in 1853 and the works of the butcher's and fish shop were completed in 1873, the work of the architect Leandre Serrallach. In 1873 it received the official name of Plaza de Ocata. Previously it had also been called Plaça de Fontanills, Plaça de Sant Jaume and Plaça de Santa Anna. During the Second Republic it was called Plaça de Pi i Margall and in Francoist times Plaça General Sanjurjo.
