The Val d'Aran valley is a region with its own personality. This area in the high mountains is the only Atlantic valley in the Catalan part of the Pyrenees. Historically, this unique region had a strong connection with Occitania in southern France, and due to being isolated in winter for centuries, a distinct language has developed in this area – Aranese, which is recognized as an official language in Catalonia – and this land has many traditions rooted in the culture of southern France. The Val d'Aran, with its 3000-meter-high peaks, impressive landscapes, and many glacier lakes, is an ideal area for adventure sports and skiing. Here lies the ski resort Baqueira Beret, which is considered the best winter sports facility in all of Spain. The rich artistic and cultural heritage and the exceptional local gastronomy complement the attractive offerings of this area.
