The Montcortès lake is a karst formation near Montcortès de Pallars, to the west of this village, at an altitude of 1,030 m. in the municipal term of Baix Pallars, in the Pallars Sobirà region, within the territory of the former term of Montcortès de Pallars.
Together with the Basturs lakes, it is the only non-glacial origin lake in the Pyrenees. Its perimeter, almost circular, is 1,320 meters, and the maximum depth is 30 m. The lake is included in the Plan for Areas of Natural Interest and also belongs to the Natura 2000 Network. The protected area covers 46 hectares.
