The Biel tower rises over a rocky hill in the Zaragoza town of Biel, controlling the Arba de Biel river.
There are documented references to this castle dating back to the time of Sancho III the Great of Navarre, but its first known steward was Blasco Orioli, between the years 1042 and 1051. Being king of Aragon, Sancho Ramírez gave it as a dowry to his wife Felicia de Roucy, whom he married in 1071. From that date, the castle is mentioned as the King's Palace, of which his sons Fernando and Alfonso will successively be stewards. It was Alfonso I who donated it to Castán de Biel in the 11th century. From the 13th century, the castle began to lose importance, and in the 15th century, it became a place of lordship.[1]
