The monument is the work of the Valencian sculptor Manuel Boix and was inaugurated on September 19, 1997. The sculpture pays tribute to Jerez's tribute to the person who made the sherry industry great while promoting social improvements in the Jerez community .
Manuel María González Ángel was born in Sanlúcar de Barrameda in 1812 and died in Jerez in 1887.
He settled in Jerez in 1835 at the age of 23 and started the current winery company González Byass in Jerez. Advised by his uncle José , he gave the name to the famous brand and flagship of the company: TIO PEPE .
Manuel María managed to become the first exporter of sherry wines . He founded several important commercial institutions and collaborated in many other companies, including the railway from Sanlúcar to Bonanza.
