The presence of Mudejar arches in the tower and the general features of the building indicate the possible existence of a mosque with a minaret as the predecessor of the current church, which may have been rebuilt in the 18th century .
The most interesting feature of this church is the slender tower, located at the rear of the side facade.
The tower has a four-sided pyramidal spire. It has an opening on each side and a restored brick Moorish arch has been preserved in the lower part.
The church played a role as an isolation hospital when cholera epidemics ravaged the Sierra de Cádiz in the 19th century.
The church is currently closed for worship.
