Over time this building was given the name Hospital de San Juan de Dios , although it should actually be called the Church of San Juan de Dios , since its historical function was to serve as a subsidiary chapel to the Mercy Hospital.
It has a Greek cross plan within a square. It has three naves with cross vaults and a domed chancel. It belongs to the Baroque style, although the facades are neoclassical.
The tower is at the corner of the island, with Ionic pilasters and Italian marble and a bulbous spire made by Torcuato Cayón in 1768.
The main features of the interior are the 18th-century altarpieces , decorated with golden rocaille and Italian marble, such as those of Sant Rafael, Sant Joan de Déu and Sant Josep , all by Torcuato Benjumeda.
