Plaza de Jerónimo Páez - Cordoba

The Plaza de Jerónimo Páez is divided into two levels and consists of several buildings of great historical and artistic value from different periods.

It is named after the Palace of the Páez de Castillejo, a Renaissance building from the 16th century with a remarkable facade by Hernán Ruiz II. Built on what were once the gardens of the palace of the alfaquí Ybrahim Ben Nacer, it now houses the Archaeological and Ethnological Museum of Cordoba.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the square was remodeled when the archaeological museum was expanded. During the works, part of the ancient Roman theater of the city will come to light, which today forms part of the visit. Of great importance in Roman times for its theater, but also in Islamic times for its proximity to the mosque, it is a current witness to the Roman, Muslim and Christian past of our city, being one of the obligatory points on our tour.
