Fontanès is a French municipality with 685 inhabitants in the Gard department in the Occitanie region. The municipality belongs to the Nîmes arrondissement and the Calvisson canton. The inhabitants are called Fontanois. Fontanès is located about 21 kilometers west of Nîmes and about 29 kilometers north-northeast of Montpellier. To the northwest, the Vidourle forms the boundary of the municipality. Fontanès is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Vic-le-Fesq to the north and northwest, Combas to the north and northeast, Souvignargues to the east and southeast, Villevieille to the south, Salinelles to the southwest, and Lecques to the west.
