Mothern is a French municipality with 1,955 inhabitants in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region.
Mothern borders Germany. The Rhine forms the state border. In the past, the river branched into numerous main and secondary arms. At the former riverbed, there were at least two settlements known as Haut-Village and Bas-Village. It is well known that the Rhine was straightened according to plans by engineer Tulla, allowing Mothern to grow to a population of nearly 2,000 people much later. Today, tourism plays an important role there.
