Retournac is a commune in the Haute-Loire department in northern France with 2535 inhabitants. It is part of the Yssingeaux Arrondissement and is located on the Loire in the Pays du Sucs. Near Retournac, traces of habitation dating back to prehistoric times were found; objects dating back 15,000 to 18,000 years were found in the cave of Cottier in the east of the municipality of Retournac. In the village there is a Romanesque church from the 12th century as well as a medieval fortress and some fortified houses.
