The French Needle of Cleopatra, known as the "Obelisk," is located in the center of Place de la Concorde and originally belonged to the entrance of the Luxor Temple. Mohamed Ali, the viceroy who also provided England with an obelisk, gifted this Needle of Cleopatra to Paris in exchange for a small clock tower, which was to be placed in the citadel of Cairo (and turned out not to work).
