Pau is a town in the Aquitaine region. It is the birthplace of Henry IV. From 1950 to 1990 Pau was dependent on the production of gas and sulfur dioxide. Currently the main economic activities are oil industry, aerospace, tourism and agriculture. Elf Aquitaine was created here. This company is now a branch of Total. Pau is the third business and academic center of the South West of France after Bordeaux and Toulouse. Almost every year Pau is included in the Tour de France.
