Between the Lys and the coast, there are more than 50 churches that were spared from the last wars, where the history of French Flanders, religion, and art is preserved. We encounter medieval remains, architectural masterpieces, sculptures, and paintings from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries that have been lost sight of for too long. The altarpieces are receiving renewed attention thanks to the "Retables de France" association. The organization advocates for the preservation, restoration, and reevaluation of this heritage. It brings together municipalities and parishes, relevant government and departmental institutions, experts, and enthusiastic art lovers.
