Aulas

Aulas is a French commune with 456 inhabitants in the Gard department in the Occitanie region. The commune of Aulas is located in the southwest of the Cevennes mountains and is 51 kilometers northwest of the regional capital Montpellier. Due to its proximity to Mont Aigoual, which is located about 15 kilometers to the north, its area is characterized by significant elevation changes and includes hills and mountains some over 600 meters high. On the other hand, it is traversed by the Coudoulous and has a valley along its banks, where the main village of Aulas is also located. Just a few kilometers to the south, it flows into the Arre, which forms another river valley. Along both rivers, around the small town of Le Vigan, which has about 4,000 inhabitants, there is a cluster of larger settlements that includes Aulas in an otherwise extremely sparsely populated region.
