The fountain located on the road to the springs at the foot of the Drumont at an altitude of 735 m officially marks the source of the Moselle. However, the river is formed from the meeting of several streams, some of which rise to over 1000 m, on the slopes of Grand Drumont. After a long course of 560 km, the Moselle flows into the Rhine at Koblenz in Germany which is however only 262 km from Bussang as the crow flies! The source is marked by a granite monument which was erected on 23 May 1965. It is located below the Bussang Pass.
