La fuente situada en la ruta de las fuentes, al pie de Drumont, a 735 m de altitud, marca oficialmente el nacimiento del Mosela. Sin embargo, el río se forma a partir de la unión de varios arroyos, algunos de los cuales fluyen a más de 1.000 m de altura, en las laderas del Grand Drumont. Tras un largo recorrido de 560 km, el Mosela desemboca en el Rin en Coblenza (Alemania), que está a sólo 262 km de Bussang en línea recta La fuente está marcada por un monumento de granito que se erigió el 23 de mayo de 1965. Se encuentra debajo del Col de Bussang.
