The Dompeter, from lat. domus Petri, is the former Roman Catholic parish church of Molsheim in Alsace and is considered the oldest church in Alsace. Although it is located in the municipal area of Molsheim, it is often associated with the neighboring municipality of Avolsheim, as it is much closer to that village.
According to a legend, Maternus of Cologne founded Saint Peter. Excavations in 1914 revealed that a predecessor building had already existed on the same site in the 7th century. The current church was consecrated between 1049 and 1053 by Pope Leo IX. The church tower was restored after being struck by lightning in 1746. The Romanesque apse was replaced by the current choir area in 1823. In 1933, the scouts took on the restoration of the church.
