The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a monument in Paris where the remains of an unknown soldier were buried.
At the end of World War I, the German capitulation was signed on Armistice Day. Since then, this day has been commemorated every year. In 1919, the plan was formed to bury an unidentified soldier in the Panthéon in memory of the fallen. Later, it was decided to bury him at the Arc de Triomphe. On November 10, 1920, a casket was placed in the chapel on the first floor of the Arc. On January 28, 1921, the soldier was ultimately buried at the current location. The inscription on the tombstone reads: ICI REPOSE UN SOLDAT FRANÇAIS MORT POUR LA PATRIE 1914–1918 .
