Located in Béarn, facing the Pyrenees, the castle of Mascaraàs is a fully listed historical monument, exterior and all interiors.
Reconstructed in the 16th and 17th centuries, on the remains of a medieval fortress, it houses the most important authentic 18th century interior complex in the northern Pyrenées-Atlantiques department. It offers a guided tour of a dozen inhabited rooms. They reveal their exceptional decorations of marble (fireplaces, floors, fountain), 18th century woodwork (Salon des Métamorphoses, frescos (Volière de la Marquise) and antique wallpaper. The castle contains important family furniture entirely 17th and 18th centuries and works of art: sculptures from the 13th to 17th century, paintings (primitive Flemish in the 19th century), old engravings... The large old library holds 1500 books from before 1800. Finally, admire the old kitchen.
