The Musée de la Cour d?Or takes its name from the palace of the kings of Austrasia that once stood in Metz. The Gallo-Roman archaeological collection is one of the most important in France, with ancient thermal baths preserved in situ, the Merten column, an altar to Mithras, etc. A maze of rooms and passageways leads from the 15th-century Chèvremont granary to the 13th-century Voué ceilings and the St-Pierre-aux-Nonnains chancel, renowned for one of Europe?s finest ensembles of Merovingian sculpture (7th century). The Fine Arts gallery features works by Monsù Desiderio (17th century) and the Ecole de Metz (19th century).
Five guided tours in easy-to-read and easy-to-understand (FALC) language. Booklets available free of charge to visitors.
