Chaource ... is the biggest village of the township and its chief town: 1200 inhabitants! Chaource is located midway between Troyes and Tonnerre (28 km) and at the foot of the Côte des Bar (20 km from Bar-sur-Seine and Les Riceys). Nestled at the foot of the forest of Aumont is a charming country that offers many opportunities for green tourism enthusiasts and fans of historical monuments. The church Saint John the Baptist, dated XII century and rebuilt in the sixteenth, is home to exceptional treasures: superb entombment conducted by the "Master of Chaource" church jewel and masterpiece of school Trojan sculpture of the sixteenth century, a gilded wooden crib, work of sculptors from Troyes School, a monumental organ of the seventeenth century, a rich statuary and classified, several well preserved wooden altar, a fresco and a showcase for treasures containing artwork. Chaource still has some old houses with wood side including Allours (wooden arcades) well preserved and a type Baltard hall. The name of Chaource two presumed origins: a Gallo-Roman because its former name Cadusia come from the Cadus word for the battle, which would Chaource a pugnacious and a Celtic origin: Cha (fields) and Bears (marsh) . The city has indeed been built on former swamp drained over the centuries. Tourism and Chaourçois agree .... long. villas, guest houses, hotels and restaurants attached to a culinary tradition based on local produce will delight fans in the mouth. Chaource, a cheese PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) obviously contributes to the reputation of the village and township. Many local producers also welcome visitors. They are part of the Circuit of flavors ... The varied landscapes of plains, hills and dense forests, have enabled the development of many circuits of hiking and mountain biking. The Tourist Information Office of Chaource organizes guided tours of the Saint Jean Baptiste in Chaource.
