This establishment, located on the border between Arbis and Escoussans, was probably built in the second half of the 15th century. It takes its name from a Milanese arms manufacturer, Ambroise de Karoles, who settled in Bordeaux in 1485. Initially associated with three other Italians, he settled in Escoussans in 1490, probably at the request of Gaston de Foix, Count of Benauges. This mill, also known as the new mill, was probably rebuilt after the end of the Hundred Years' War and was then used to beat the plates for the manufacture of armoury parts, but also to grind grain.
