Following the legend of Sainte Menne, two religious monuments dedicated to the Saint were built: a chapel (near the village of Puzieux) and an abbey in the village of Poussay.
In this abbey lived Benedictine nuns. It is inside the cloister that the well was built. In the XIIth century (Columns of the XIIIth Century Frame of the XVIIIth Deep 33 meters).
Originally, the well was only used by the Benedictine nuns. Then when the abbey was destroyed during the revolution, all the villagers used it for their consumption, daily use (washing...), watering the animals. In the 17th century, it was covered, to keep its surroundings clean. After the discovery of the spring and the construction of a fountain, the use of the well stopped.
