Chemin de Halage

Stroll along the Lot, in a magnificent setting, which will take you from the port of Bouziès to the foot of St Cirq Lapopie (or the other way round). From the towpath, the "gabarres" (flat-bottomed boats) were pulled in convoy by men or draught animals.

At the height of the Ganil lock, the cliff falls steeply into the river, forcing men to dig the limestone rock of the cliff by the force of their arms alone in 1845 for nearly 1km.

It is embellished with a 30m long bas-relief, sculpted in 1985 by the Toulouse artist Daniel MONNIER. It evokes his representation of the river and its environment: fauna, flora, rocks, fossils and whirlpools.
