The chapel is located on the site of an abbey-church and a convent founded in the 7th century by Glossinde de Champagne who came from a noble family of the Austrasian Court. The chapel, rebuilt between 1752 and 1757, and the adjoining buildings, today the seat of the diocese, administration and residence of the Bishop of Metz, are only occasionally opened on European Heritage Days.
