Palavas-les-Flots covers an area of 847.5 hectares, 75% of which is covered by coastal ponds that form a remarkable chain of large and rich lagoons that communicate with each other
Today, the whole of the Palavasian ponds is recognized and protected, classified as a Natura 2000 zone (natural habitats and animal and plant species of community interest), labeled Ramsar (wetlands of international importance).
