The Saint-Amand Bridge is one of the three lock bridges designed by the Marshal de Vauban at the end of the 17th century to reinforce the defence of the city's south-eastern front. The bridge allowed the flooding of the upstream sector to put the town out of reach of the enemy's cannons. Completed in 1687, it is the only one to have resisted the vicissitudes linked to the history of the town. Very well preserved, its manoeuvring building is still in working order.
