This old tower that rises above the city, before it was a prison, served for a long time as a watchtower to see the enemies coming along the various roads or along the river Maas.
That's why she has so many windows in her walls.
Part of the route "Mont D'Haurs Givet - On expedition to the monumental entrance gate from 1707".
The old fortress of Mont D'Haurs was built in the shape of a crown sometime between 1698 and 1707.
Building blocks were mainly extracted with the construction of a moat around the fortress walls.
Unfortunately, the tower is not publicly accessible and you can therefore not climb up. You can walk to the front door from where you have a nice view over Givet and the Maas.
