Montesquiou was the cradle of the noble and ancient family of Montesquiou, from which the Montesquiou-d'Artagnan and Montesquiou-Monluc descended, two great families from which many war characters descended such as Blaise Monluc, Marshal of France and a great diarist of his period, mother of D'Artagnan, Napoleon's nanny, the Duke of Montesquiou, minister of Louis the 18th and Robert Montesquiou, poet, dandy for the Lord, who becomes Proust's Monsieur de Charlus.
