Fossil and marcasite site of Cap Blanc-Nez

The area around Cap Blanc-Nez and Escalles is popular among fossil seekers. You can find both fossils and marcasite nodules there. Be aware of two things:

• Beware of the quickly rising tide (check the tide table - the difference between low and high tide can be more than six meters)
• falling rock blocks near the cliff coast (do not go near the cliff coast but search for fossils and marcasite nodules on the beach far enough from the cliffs)

The fossils come from the fossil-rich deposits of the Lower Cretaceous (Albian). You will find those deposits beneath the striking white cliffs of limestone from the Upper Cretaceous (Cenomanian and Turonian)
