De omgeving van Cap Blanc-Nez en Escalles is bij fossielenzoekers geliefd. Je vindt er zowel fossielen als markasietknollen. Let op voor twee zaken:

Let op van het snel opkomende getij (check de getijdentabel - het verschil tussen eb en vloed kan meer dan zes meter bedragen)
vallende rotsblokken nabij de klifkust (ga niet nabij de klifkust maar zoek fossielen en markasietknollen op het strand ver genoeg van de kliffen)

De fossielen komen uit de fossielrijke afzettingen uit het Onder-Krijt (Albien). Die afzettingen vind je onder de opvallend witte kliffen van kalksteen uit het Boven-Krijt (Cenomaan en Turonien)
