Description

Saint-Valéric was a 5th-century hermit who, on his way down to Limoges to see the relics of Saint-Martial, stopped off at Mont Bernage, or Puy des Trois Cornes. He set up his hermitage there. Saint-Valéric, wanting to quench his thirst, threw his pickaxe from the summit of Mont Bernage, and a spring is said to have sprung up where the pickaxe fell. This fountain is said to be miraculous, curing ailments and giving strength to young children. A statue of the saint was erected on the site in the early 20th century. On July 8, the saint's feast day, a mass is dedicated to him and a pilgrimage is made to the site where he is said to have lived.
