A 16th-century guardhouse, the Barbacane's walls are pierced by numerous harquebusiers.
This advanced fortification provided access to the town.
In fact, during the Hundred Years' War against the English, the people of Cahors had to build a new rampart to the north (the Barbacane), to protect their numerous dwellings and monasteries.
The monument is visible from the outside, but cannot be visited.
